Braun Wernhervon Biography

German-American aerospace engineer, rocket expert and pioneer in space technology, widely seen as either the "father of space travel", "father of rocket science" or "father of the American lunar program". He was a member of the Nazi Party and SS, as well as the leading figure in the development of rocket technology in Nazi Germany and a pioneer of rocket and space technology in the USA. By age 20, Braun was Germanys top civilian specialist in rocketry; he became the chief designer of the V-2 rocket. After the war, he worked on rockets, missiles and space satellites for NASA from 1958-1972. His job at NASA was followed by an executive post as Vice-President of Fairchild Industries. Wernher Braun had a charismatic personality and was known in his youth as a ladies man. He eventually married and had three children.
