DeVries PeterR Biography

Dutch investigative journalist and crime reporter whose television program Peter R. de Vries, misdaadverslaggever (Crime Reporter; 1995−2012) covered high-profile cases and set a Dutch television viewing record. In 1978, after fulfilling his military service, DeVries landed a job as a newspaper reporter. Stories of crime caught his interest and became his specialty and he was instrumental in investigating several allegations of wrongdoing. He became interested in the disappearance of American Natalee Holloway in Aruba and claimed to know what happened to her, broadcasting a special report on television. In 2005, he founded his own political party which was disbanded soon after. At around 7:45 PM on 6 July 2021 he was shot in the head after leaving the television studio of RTL Boulevard in Amsterdam where he had appeared as a guest. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he died nine days later at age 64. De Vries was married and had two grown children, a daughter and a son. Link to Wikipedia biography Read less
