A former assistant district attorney, he was first elected to the Massachusetts House in 1979 and has been continually re-elected since then. He served as assistant majority Whip for two years, from 1996-1998 and became Majority Whip in 2001 a post he held until 1 October 2004 when he became Speaker of the House. Salvatore F. DiMasi (born August 11, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts) is a former American politician who served as Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2004 to 2009.
