Dupuis Sadie Biography

American poet and multi-instrumentalist, currently the guitarist, lead vocalist, and lyricist for the band Speedy Ortiz and formerly for the band Quilty. Sadie Dupuis began playing music as a child through choirs and piano playing. She joined a professional choir in middle school and toured internationally with it through high school. She learned to play the guitar at the age of 13. Dupuis attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for two years. She pursued dual degrees in math and music before becoming interested in the school newspaper and eschewing math in favor of writing. After leaving MIT she completed her schooling at Barnard College with a concentration in poetry. Before becoming a full-time musician, she worked as a freelance writer as well as teaching writing and getting a Masters of Fine Arts in poetry at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dupuis released two albums with her band Quilty, both released on Cooling Pie Records. The band split up in 2012 while Dupuis pursued Speedy Ortiz. Also during 2012, Dupuis side project Dark Warble released an EP Moon is Trouble. Dupuis wrote her first Speedy Ortiz song, "Ka-Prow", while teaching song writing at Bucks Rock summer camp in 2011. Speedy Ortiz released its first EP, Cop Kicker, in 2011. Dupuis quit her job and became a full-time musician while preparing for the release of Speedy Ortizs second album, Foil Deer. She has also featured in numerous tracks by Ovlov in which she provides backing vocals. Dupuis is a vegan, and has adapted her touring life to her diet. In January 2016, Dupuis, under the name Sad13 worked with alternative Hip Hop artist Lizzo. They were asked to write a song together using Google Docs without having ever met each other before.
