Garro Elena Biography

Mexican screenwriter, journalist, dramaturg, short story writer, and novelist. She has been described as the initiator of the Magical Realism movement, though she rejected this affiliation. She is a recipient of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize. While living in Mexico City she met Octavio Paz whom she married in 1937. They had one daughter, Laura Helena Paz Garro. Most of her works have been produced abroad, and many were printed many years after she had written them. Elena Garro and Octavio Paz divorced in 1959. She lived in Madrid and Europe before returning to Cuernavaca, Mexico, where she died on 23 August 1998 at age 81. Link to Wikipedia biography Read less
