Shakambhari Purnima venerates Goddess Shakambhari, a form of Durga/Parvati who nourishes the world with greens and harvest. According to scriptural and regional legends, she descended to relieve famine and feed the hungry, symbolizing divine nourishment. The day is observed on the full moon (Purnima) in the harvest season, with devotees venerating her as the goddess of nourishment.
The ritual is performed at home or in temples with offerings of seasonal vegetables, fruits, milk, and sweets; many observe a vegetarian fast and chant Shakambhari or Durga mantras before performing aarti.
The date and timing can vary by region because different Panchangs define the Purnima day from the lunar calendar, so some places observe on the Purnima tithi while others follow a specific nakshatra or muhurat for rituals.
