American infant death; on September 11, 1996, this 18-month-old baby died from a reaction to a DPT vaccine. His parents learned four months after his death that they had buried him without his organs. Children’s Hospital in Boston, where the autopsy had been performed, had retained his organs, citing its standard practice to remove and retain all organs for a year. Because the medical examiner, acting under statutory authority had requested the autopsy, the parents hadn’t been asked to sign the usual consent forms, and they sued the hospital.
