Clifford JohnCharles

American dancer and choreographer with the New York City Ballet, one of the youngest choreographers to make an impact on American dance. He began dancing as a youngster in 1959, showing off his sprightly effervescence with the New York Ballet. He also played a few dance roles on TV. After graduating from Hollywood High School, he studied dance including a stint with the Bolshoi company in 1966. He worked with the NYC Ballet in 1966, adding roles and moving into production. In the following five years Clifford made a singular impact on American dance with his mercurial allegro pacing, extraordinary turns and flamboyant style. A disciple of Balanchine and Robbins, he nonetheless is his own man with his own vision. Of medium height, handsome and restless, he cant sit still for an interview.
