McKeever Mike

American football guard on the University of Southern California team, the younger twin brother of Marlin McKeever, they were the first twins to earn All-America status. Mike McKeever suffered a head injury in his senior year at USC which ended his collegiate football career. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1987. With his twin brother, McKeever also had a brief career in film, appearing in the 1962 Three Stooges comedy film The Three Stooges Meet Hercules playing the Siamese Cyclops twins Ajax and Argo. While returning from work in October 1965, McKeever was involved in a traffic collision. He suffered extensive head injuries and was in a coma for 22 months before dying at age 27 on 24 August 1967 in Montebello, California. At the time of his death, McKeever was training for the hammer throw, hoping to make the U.S. Olympic Team. His daughter Teri McKeever attended USC and competed for the USC swim team. She went on to become the head coach of the University of California and in 2004 became the first female coach of the U.S. Olympic swimming team. McKeevers two sons became football players.
