American lawyer and entertainment executive who served as President and COO of MCA Inc. and Universal Studios for over 40 years. He married actress Lorraine Gary, and he is also known for discovering Steven Spielberg. Sheinberg served as President and CEO of Universal Pictures (a division of MCA, Inc.) with the highest-grossing films of the last three decades of the 20th Century all being Universal/Spielberg projects, beginning with Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and concluding with Jurassic Park (1993). Other high-performing films credited to him are Schindlers List (1993) and Back to the Future (1985). His battle with Terry Gilliam over the final cut of the movie Brazil was the subject of a book and documentary entitled The Battle of Brazil. In 1990, Sheinberg and Lew Wasserman negotiated a $6.59 billion sale of MCA and Universal to Japans Matsushita Electric in cash and securities. Sheinberg was married to Gary since 1956.
