Norwegian psychiatrist and professor. He was often described as the grand old man of psychiatry in Norway. From 1973 to 1994 he was professor of psychiatry at the University of Oslo and chief physician at the Gaustad psychiatric hospital. He was especially known for his work on suicide issues and mental illness as a result of delusions. In 1984 he was appointed Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav.
