Sukowa Barbara Biography

German stage and screen actress named Best Actress at Berlins film festival. A striking, versatile stage actress, she carried the title role in Fassbinders Lola (1981). She won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for Rosa Luxemburg (1986). Her other film appearances Europa (1990), M. Butterfly (1993), and Hannah Arendt (2012). She starred as Katarina Jones in the television series 12 Monkeys (2015–2018). A communist sympathizer, she was called "Red Barbara". In 2012 she was on the jury of the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. She was married to the artist and director Robert Longo, with whom she performed as a singer. They split in 2018.
